Placing a senior with Alzheimer's or dementia into a community can feel challenging, so ensuring they are in a supportive community is essential. Memory care communities have trained staff devoted to providing specialized memory care and activities geared toward people with varying levels of cognitive impairment.

Community Options
Memory care communities are specially designed, maintained, and staffed for people who have Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. Typically, staff has been trained to care for seniors with behaviors such as aggression, depression, and confusion.
The floor plans usually are one level, with flat surfaces for walking. Most homes have novelties, such as textured pictures on the walls for sight and touch and enclosed courtyards for freedom and security. Some even have pets for the residents to enjoy.
The floors are distinctly different colors than the walls to reduce confusion. Semi-private rooms are available and sometimes preferred to prevent loneliness and isolation.
